As a tribute to their outstanding contributions and leadership in higher education, the League is proud to announce the establishment of the John & Suanne Roueche Excellence Awards. These awards celebrate excellence in teaching and are open to faculty, staff, and administrators at League Alliance member colleges. The development and implementation of eligibility criteria, procedures, and selection protocol are customized by each member institution and dependent on their ideals and values of faculty and staff excellence. Honorees will receive commemorative medallions and certificates in recognition of their distinguished status and will be celebrated at Innovations conference events dedicated to their accomplishments.

John E. and Suanne D. Roueche, leaders in the community college field and early proponents of the idea that teachers have major responsibility for how well students perform in the classroom, have been partners and friends of the League for Innovation in the Community College for over thirty-five years. What began as a working relationship with the founders of the League has evolved into a full-fledged partnership through collaborative efforts on projects of mutual interest and national concern.

As the inaugural event stands ready to launch at the Innovations conference in Dallas, Texas, March 10-13, 2013, the League looks forward to celebrating the exceptional faculty and staff serving in community colleges around the globe and initiating a network of instructional leadership. On Sunday, March 10, a special Excellence Awards Reception is planned to congratulate honorees for their exemplary achievements. During the keynote address by John and Suanne Roueche, on Wednesday, March 13, recipients will be asked to stand to have their specially cast, pewter medallions formally hung around their necks, as part of the conference Closing Session.

Excellence Awards recipients will also be celebrated in various printed material and photo and video presentations during the conference, including a special Excellence Awards program listing the names, titles, and colleges of all honorees and featuring congratulatory comments from their home colleges.

Alliance member institutions are invited to nominate those at their institutions who exemplify exceptional teaching and leadership for the first annual John & Suanne Roueche Excellence Awards. The Roueches have long celebrated the contributions of exceptional community college faculty and staff, and the League is pleased to partner with them to continue that legacy.

The League is currently accepting submissions for the 2012 John & Suanne Roueche Excellence Awards. The deadline for submission is December 8, 2012.

Participating colleges and systems are encouraged to submit an ad for the first annual John & Suanne Roueche Excellence Awards program. The purpose of the ads is to highlight and congratulate Excellence Awards recipients, and promote exceptional faculty and staff at member colleges. Submissions may include photos of recipients and/or a special congratulatory message.

The deadline to submit congratulatory ads is January 26, 2013. Click here to submit your ad using our online submission system.
