OFFbeat Brands of Petaluma, California has been selected by Grant Burge Wines of Barossa Valley as the Australian brand’s exclusive importer in the United States. OFFbeat, which represents a small number of international wine properties under its Luxury Estates & Domains division, has also been named importer for Drift Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough, New Zealand.

“Grant Burge Wines is truly one of the icons of the Australian fine wine industry, a Barossa vintner with an authentic history of critically-acclaimed wines that reaches back many decades,” says Mike Kenton, Founder and CEO of OFFbeat brands. “We’re excited to re-energize the brand, increase distribution and make these highly sought-after wines more available to consumers throughout the U.S.”

“We’re excited to partner with Mike Kenton and OFFbeat Brands to ensure that Grant Burge Wines has a strong presence in the United States,” said Nick Doumanis, Global Sales Director, Grant Burge Wines. “OFFbeat’s understanding of the unique challenges for import brands in the U.S. marketplace will be invaluable as we re-introduce and grow our portfolio here.”

A 37-year veteran of the wine industry, Kenton was CEO at Artesa Winery and Aveniu Brands from 1996 to 2011 and also held senior management positions at E&J Gallo Winery, Chateau St. Jean Winery, Buckingham-Wile Company, and Joseph E. Seagram prior to forming OFFbeat Brands. Kenton’s partner, Xavier Batlle, is a European wine executive with over twenty years of experience in the global wine industry, including positions as Managing Director at United Wineries International S.A. in London and International Director at Codorniu S.A. in Barcelona.

Grant Burge is a fifth-generation Barossa vigneron whose family’s long association with viticulture and winemaking in the region can be traced back to 1855 when his forefather, John Burge, immigrated to the area from England. Grant Burge Wines was formed in 1988 by Grant and his wife Helen, and the family-owned and operated winery is located in the heart of the Barossa Valley. Drawing on fruit from its own historic, estate vineyards in the Barossa and fine vineyards in South Australia, Grant Burge produces several ranges of wine that have received consistent acclaim from some of the world’s most prestigious wine critics. Among the offerings that OFFbeat Brands will represent in the U. S. are the Holy Trinity, 5th Generation Shiraz, the gb Range 32 Chardonnay and 56 Shiraz and Grant Burge’s 10 Year Old Tawny.

Drift Sauvignon Blanc is from the Marlborough region of New Zealand, an area widely recognized as producing some of the finest and most distinctive Sauvignon Blanc in the world. Selected from vineyards in the Awatere Valley of the Marlborough region, the grapes for Drift Sauvignon Blanc are grown in dramatic coastal conditions in unique soils that produce vibrant, intensely flavored wines with a distinct mineral character.

“New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc has rightfully earned a prominent position on wine lists and on the shelves of places where wine is sold across the U.S.,” says Kenton. “Drift Sauvignon Blanc is from prized vineyards in Marlborough, a beautifully made, classic rendition of Sauvignon Blanc from this renowned wine region.”
