Seoul is set to fulfill every Korean food-lovers’ dream with the “Delicious Seoul Story Gourmet Tour & Cooking Contest” this fall. Five teams will begin their journey of exploring Korean cuisine on September 17th in Seoul, Korea.

Seoul Metropolitan Government and Seoul Tourism Organization (STO) are set to fulfill every Korean food-lovers’ dream with the “Delicious Seoul Story Gourmet Tour & Cooking Contest” this fall. The five teams that were chosen from a YouTube online video contest will begin their journey of exploring Korean cuisine on Monday, September 17th in Seoul, Korea.

For six weeks in July and August, STO ran an online video contest on YouTube inviting amateur chefs across the globe to submit videos of them making Korean food. About 90 videos from 27 countries were submitted, and teams from Hungary, the United States, Austria, Indonesia, and France were chosen as finalists to join the Seoul Gourmet Tour. The winning recipes include traditional Korean dishes such as Royal Tteokbbokki and Bibim Guksu to fusion creations such as Doenjang Chicken with Kimchi Mousse. With two people on each team, a total of ten participants will be embarking on a Gourmet Tour and get a chance to show off their cooking skills at a cooking contest in Seoul.

For five days starting on September 17th, the participants will be engaged in cooking classes with masters in Korean cuisine, visit a makgeolli brewery and several traditional markets, and last but not least, indulge in various kinds of Korean cuisine, from traditional meals to street food. The cooking class will be especially featured by Ms. Han Bok-ryeo, the president of the Institute of Korean Royal Cuisine and also the holder of Important Intangible Cultural Property of Korea No. 38, “The Royal Cuisines”.

Participants will gather at the Korea House on September 20th to cook their original recipes. Five judges will determine the final winning team, and each team will be awarded with a special plaque and prize. This annual contest is taking place for its second year, and is one of the more rare opportunities in Seoul where foreigners can be seen competing in a Korean cooking contest. STO hopes to increase awareness of Seoul and Korean culture by hosting a series of events similar to the “Delicious Seoul Story Cooking Contest”.
