In her new book “Cowgirl Is a State of Mind” (published by iUniverse), author Laurie Hartman tells the story of a young woman who follows her dreams outside her comfort zone, finding herself along the way.
Riley Montgomery resides in the city and works as a receptionist at a law office, but lives for the weekend, knowing she will be barrel racing. Even though she becomes disheartened with her urban life, it takes an unexpected tragedy for her to take life by the reins. She moves to a small rural town where she comes to love her new quiet existence with her horses. She makes several new friends, including a local man who stirs her emotions, but the relationship stalls. Dealing with embarrassing situations as well as misfortune, Riley keeps her chin up during her journey and discovers where her heart truly belongs – city or country.
An excerpt from “Cowgirl Is a State of Mind”:
“‘Why don’t you give it some thought,’ he said straightforwardly. ‘Life’s too short not to grab what you want when you can along the way.’
She didn’t know what to say, thinking maybe she was wrong with her conclusion about him, and wondered what her expression might be revealing.”
Hartman hopes readers find “Cowgirl Is a State of Mind” meaningful and poignant. “There are surprises – pleasant as well as unfortunate, but the characters face them in a positive way,” she explains. “Anyone who wants to be inspired by everyday kind of people will enjoy ‘Cowgirl Is a State of Mind.’”
