InfoDesk to focus on life science industry’s biggest research data bottlenecks

Haitham Mahmoud has joined InfoDesk as Director of Product Development and will lead development efforts for its new pharmaceutical intelligence platform, InfoDesk announced Wednesday.

InfoDesk’s new pharmaceutical intelligence platform is designed to resolve some of the biggest research data bottlenecks that pharmaceutical research organizations encounter, including drug pipeline, clinical trials, patents and chemical structures.

“Helping life science companies overcome these big data challenges is our next frontier,” said InfoDesk CEO Sterling Stites, in making the announcement.

Mahmoud’s experience in “some highly specialized areas, such as biomedical taxonomy and ontology,” Stites said, will “dovetail perfectly with InfoDesk’s development of a new business intelligence platform for the pharmaceutical industry.”

“We are truly fortunate to have Haitham on board,” Stites said.

Mahmoud brings to InfoDesk more than twelve years of experience developing domain specific taxonomies and content integration solutions for the life science information and publishing industry. Most recently, he was the Principal Engineer for Elsevier, where he worked for five years in various roles, primarily developing technology products for clinical decision making, business and strategic intelligence for the life science market.

Prior to Elsevier, Mahmoud worked at AdvanTechnologies as Director of Technology, specializing in developing pharmaceutical and business intelligence products. In 2008, AdvanTechnologies was acquired by Elsevier.

In making the announcement, Stites also noted that the development of a new intelligence platform may seem “undramatic and perhaps a little mundane,” but the value of such a research tool should not be underrated.

“Finding the cure for cancer and other diseases may very well rest in something as unglamorous as the ability of pharmaceutical and research organizations to manage, search and share pharmaceutical research data more effectively,” he said.

To introduce the new pharmaceutical intelligence platform, InfoDesk recently published a 10-page White Paper, "The Benefits of Integrated Results from Multiple Drug Pipeline Data Sources: A Step Beyond the Federated Search" and is offering product demos by request.
