Until now, developers had to build and host their own chat services, blending open source technology or using third party scripts. For the first time, iOS developers can go to the City Chatter SDK page (http://www.citychatter.com/sdk) and download code to drop into their projects. City Chatter takes care of the all the rest, including maintaining and hosting the super-fast servers that pass through chat messages in under 200 milliseconds.
“When we were building City Chatter we were unhappy with the speed and scalability of other chat solutions, so we had to build our own,” said Phil Shpilberg, CEO of City Chatter. “It took a lot of tinkering to get it just right for modern web connected devices but it proved to be our most successful feature. Now we can provide this service to other developers, saving them the trouble of building back-end technology so they can focus on making great apps.”
Developers can now integrate live group and private chat into any type of app, including games, social, and business applications. Live chat makes applications more engaging, adds social elements and allows users to entertain and help each other. Group chat increases engagement, retention and improves overall attractiveness and monetization.
With the City Chatter SDK, developers can build group chat into their apps by using the native iOS SDK. The City Chatter SDK works with Apple’s new iOS6, is formatted for the iPhone 5, and also supports iOS 5 enabled devices. Developers with large-scale applications can work with City Chatter to create custom multiplatform communication solutions for their apps. City Chatter’s chat service works with any web connected browser or device, and currently runs in applications on iOS, Android and Web/Facebook. For custom communication solutions developers can contact support(at)citychatter(dot)com. City Chatter plans to release native SDKs for other platforms shortly.
About City Chatter
City Chatter is a location-based social network that helps jumpstart in-person conversations by letting people chat with the whole room or the entire neighborhood on their smartphones. The app allows users to check profiles of everyone who’s signed in, as well as join the conversation by group or personal chat, removing barriers to making personal connections and advancing the art of working a room.
