Hewlett-Packard was an innovator in recognizing the need for a component content management system (CMS) to manage their massive amount of global content. Brent Murphy, HP’s Business Manager, and Suzanne Mescan, Vasont Systems’ Vice President of Marketing, will talk about their 11-year business partnership regarding HP’s CMS implementation in the presentation, “Gaining Value from Global Content Using a CMS” at the LavaCon Conference on October 7-9 in Portland, OR.

Starting in 2001, HP and Vasont Systems began a journey to implement a component content management solution within HP that would meet their global technical documentation requirements while adding value back to the company. Suzanne and Brent will explore the value propositions that were put forth when the project began and share what value propositions have been realized over the past ten years. In addition, they will also examine and share those value propositions that exist today and how companies who utilize a CMS can benefit from these opportunities.

“When we started considering using a component content management solution to manage HP’s technical documentation, it was important for us to be able to reuse content at very granular level,” said Brent Murphy, Business Manager for Hewlett-Packard. “Through our partnership with Vasont Systems, we have found the solutions that meet our requirements while providing outstanding cost and efficiency gains.”

LavaCon was founded in 2002 to educate managers and team leaders on how to develop technical communication projects. The program has expanded over the years to include sessions on project management, content strategies, how to leverage social network and new media technologies, and more.
