The Riverboat Shuffle, Mersey Ferries’ music festival celebrating the 50th anniversary of The Beatles last performance on board the Royal Iris, sets sail this month (22 – 30 September).

The festival will feature live onboard performances from Ian Prowse (Amsterdam), The Hummingbirds, Ian McNabb and Henry Priestman, formerly of The Christians, who plays on 28 September, 50 years to the day since The Beatles last performance on board. Henry, who last played the ferry 33 years ago with former band Yachts, will be marking the occasion with the official release of the vinyl version of his debut solo album ‘The Chronicles of Modern Life’.

In addition, a jazz night featuring The Speakeasy Blues Band will acknowledge the rich history of jazz music on the ferries. Each evening performance on the famous Mersey Ferry casts off from Liverpool Pier Head terminal at 7.30pm and tickets for all shows are only £10 each.

Throughout the festival there will also be a series of free performances on board the daily River Explorer cruises and buskers will entertain passengers at the Pier Head Ferry Terminal.

Councillor Liam Robinson, Chair of Merseytravel, who own and operate the Mersey Ferries said: “ The Mersey Ferries and The Beatles go hand in hand as two of Liverpool’s icons and they are both part of the city’s rich history.

“We couldn’t let this anniversary pass without marking it with a musical tribute and the impressive array of musicians we’ve lined up will certainly make sure that the occasion is a memorable one!”
