Julie Chair - Winning Crate and Barrel chair design by Julie Mifsud Interior Design

I see the chair I designed in the same way: as a stylish and functional accessory to many rooms. It has pattern and a burst of color yet is grounded with utility and flexibility.

Julie Mifsud of Julie Mifsud Interior Design, located in San Carlos, CA, is excited to announce that her winning chair design in the recent Crate and Barrel Designer Custom Challenge competition is on sale now at crateandbarrel.com. The “Julie Chair” - inspired by the vision of a “chair as an accessory,” utilizing a piece of furniture as an accessory that can nest in any room and embellish a space. Creating a piece that is light, versatile and unexpected with a dash of style, while being highly functional, is the mark of a great accessory in fashion. Why not translate it into the home?

Using a fabric pattern originally designed by the Echo scarf company founded in 1923 and now produced by Kravet Fabrics, the chair is the embodiment of youthful, well-edited style with a splash of color on the backrest, evoking the idea of a scarf, which adds just a punch of color to a neckline. The backrest fabric styles the piece with a bit of drama in its color and pattern, while the seat of the chair is grounded with functional, neutral and durable leather. The total design is completed with a dash of unexpected accessorizing: a nail head embellishment along the bottom seat edge, adding just a bit of sparkle and fun to this flexible designer chair that can work in any room.

Julie says, “When I think of the accessory that embodies this idea, I think of a silk neck scarf. It’s versatile, light and flowy, -- adding a punch of color and style without overwhelming the overall ensemble. I see the chair I designed in the same way: as a stylish and functional accessory to many rooms. It has pattern and a burst of color yet is grounded with utility and flexibility.”
