Certification Board Honors Emergency Nursing with Awards, Scholarships

The Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing (BCEN®) honored the extraordinary efforts of two individuals and one emergency center for their efforts in promoting the value of the certification process in emergency nursing. In addition, BCEN is empowering the future of the emergency nursing field; nine scholarships were recently awarded through a $40,000 donation from BCEN to the ENA Foundation.

The Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing(BCEN®) honored the extraordinary efforts of two individuals and one emergency center for their efforts in promoting the value of the certification process in emergency nursing. Three awards were bestowed today during the Certification Recognition Breakfast sponsored by BCEN at the Emergency Nurses Association’s Annual Conference in San Diego:

-- The HCA Flower Mound Emergency Center/Medical Center of Lewisville in Flower Mound,Texas, received the Honorary BCEN® Certification Recognition Award for their outstanding contributions toward promoting the process of certification in emergency nursing and pediatric emergency nursing.
-- Buffy Lafont, BSN, RN, CEN, of Cut Off, La., accepted the Distinguished CEN® Award for her exceptional efforts to promote the value of certification in emergency nursing.
-- Denise Downey, MSN, RN, CPEN, of Lakeville, Mass., received the Distinguished CPEN® Award. The Award, presented by BCEN and Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB), recognized exemplary efforts to promote certification in pediatric emergency nursing.

Nominees were submitted by BCEN certified nurses and the winners were selected by the BCEN Executive Committee (Honorary and CEN Awards) and representatives from the BCEN and PNCB Boards (CPEN Award).

In addition, BCEN is empowering the future of the emergency nursing field; nine scholarships were recently awarded through a $40,000 donation from BCEN to the ENA Foundation:

o Linda Roney, MSN, RN-BC, CPEN – Connecticut
o Jennifer Williams, PhDc, RN, ACNS-BC, CEN – Missouri
Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing (BCEN) Graduate Scholarship – $5,000
o Diane Blackman, BSN, RN, CEN – Pennsylvania
Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing (BCEN) Undergraduate Scholarship – $3,000
o Adam Bruhn, RN, CEN, CPEN – Nebraska
Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing (BCEN) Master’s in Healthcare Scholarship – $5,000
o Cheyenne Brown, BS, RN, CEN - Utah
Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing (BCEN) Graduate Scholarships – $5,000 each
o Joyce Fuss, BSN, RN, CEN, CPEN – Indiana
o Jonathan Green, BSN, RN, CEN, CCRN – New York
o Lynn Sayre Visser, BSN, RN, CEN, CPEN – California
Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing (BCEN) Graduate Scholarship – $4,000
o Reagan Norman, BSN, RN, CEN – Indiana
