Although many families in America are affected by pediatric cancer, few know that this September marks the official National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. In an effort to help raise awareness about pediatric cancer, Hyundai is launching its 14th annual Hope on Wheels program to donate more than “$10M to fund pediatric cancer research at Children's Oncology Group across the United States” according to a recent article from The Sacramento Bee. In Brazil, financial expert Helio Laniado also fights to bring attention and care to those affected by childhood cancer by supporting Projeto Felicidade—a program designed to provide sick children with a chance to enjoy life away from their illnesses. As an advocate of eradicating cancer cases among young patients, Helio Laniado commends Hyundai for its charitable cause and encourages other Americans to help spread the message of National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
According to the article, Hyundai is leading several activities across the nation throughout the month in hopes to bring light to many children impacted by cancer diagnoses. In an effort to continue funding the Hyundai Cancer Institute—an organization that seeks a cure in young cancer patients through genomic medicine research—the company launched its campaign with the Hope On Wheels 5K Run/Walk this past Saturday at the University of California, Irvine campus. Similar events will be hosted in Chicago on September 9 and in Miami on September 29. Helio Laniado states, “Although common, half-marathons and marathons that are held for any charitable cause are a great way to help raise awareness about an issue that may not affect the lives of specific citizens. Hyundai should be congratulated for not only funding pediatric cancer research, but for also getting Americans involved and active in the fight against childhood cancer.”
By supporting Projeto Felicidade—or “Project Happiness”—in Brazil, Helio Laniado understands the importance of helping health experts understand how to treat and prevent childhood cancer. As research continues to be funded, Projeto Felicidade helps provide affected children and their families with a chance to escape the pressure of their compromised health by providing a week’s worth of fun activities for participants. Helio Laniado concludes, “Projeto Felicidade is a growing organization that continues to positively impact the lives of those facing childhood illnesses. While the nonprofit works to better the lives of patients, it is important to understand the ongoing battles these families face. Hyundai and the Hope on Wheels charity are taking a great step forward by encouraging other individuals to become aware of this widespread problem and unite in an effort to find a solution.”
Helio Laniado collaborates with Projeto Felicidade, which provides special programs to children who suffer from cancer in Brazil. These programs allow them to enjoy vacations, activities, and events that they otherwise would never experience. The mission of the organization, and Helio Laniado’s goal, is to provide kids with the chance to enjoy life, smile, and benefit from food, games, and kind care. Through the support of many, including Helio Laniado, Projeto Felicidade has forged a partnership with 35 different hospitals, which refer children to the program on a weekly basis.
