A Very Personal Abyss…A Test and Triumph of Everlasting Love is James R. Mullen’s truly compelling chronicle of his and his wife Judy’s experience with a potentially tragic story. Mullen stared into an abyss created by his wife’s being suddenly stricken with a brain aneurysm, in most cases a condition with a fatal outcome.

The hundreds who rallied around Judy’s cause is reflective of the affection with which their marriage is seen as an admirable one. It is blessed with three children (Brian, Coleen, and Dan) . Family, friends, and friends-of-friends came with prayers, visits, and help in many forms to support Judy in her sickness. The author himself narrates in this truly affecting work the conditions of his personal abyss and how the miracle of Judy’s survival pulled him out of it.

Without a doubt, the fundamental goodness of Jim Mullen and his family, the goodness of their friends, helped to bring about the miracle with their singular focus in supporting Judy in those trying times. Jim and Judy Mullen’s story is by far one of the most convincing proof of the holiness of the marriage sacrament when their marraiage went through the most catastrophic dimension of their vows that proclaimed the strength of their union “in sick and in health.”

About the Author
James (Jim) Mullen, a first-time published writer, lives in Antioch, IL, with his wife. He is a 68-year old career Human Resources professional, who previously used his B.A. with an English Major from the University of Rochester, Rochester, N.Y., principally to support business propositions and arguments in his corporate working lifetime. In recent years, Jim began to write weekly opinions on a wide variety of subjects to a small audience of family and friends. His motive for doing so was simple—to satisfy his urge to write, and thus entertain that close circle of acquaintances with his personal views. The multiple traumas that befell his beloved wife, Judy, beginning in 2008, inspired Mullen to a greater cause—to tell this story to a wider audience and, thus, to provide a personal catharsis for his anguish, and to prove the hope, love, and ultimate triumph of Judy Mullen and her family and friends across the country.
