With the peak of hurricane season upon us, preparing for a storm just got a bit easier and more convenient, thanks to a new iPad app released Sept. 14 by Kissimmee Utility Authority.

Produced in-house by the utility’s information technology department, the app provides users with helpful information on preparing for hurricanes and other natural disasters that may affect their lives.

The app includes information on emergency shelters, evacuation routes, generator safety and power outage restoration as well as helpful telephone numbers, a disaster supplies checklist and a hurricane tracking chart. KUA built the app to work even when there is no mobile service so users can access the information anytime on their device.

The app index allows users to navigate the information in either English or Spanish and offers an electronic bookmarking feature to highlight articles of personal interest.

“This app provides important safety information about what to do before, during and after a storm,” said Jef Gray, KUA’s vice president of information technology. “Preparedness is the best tool we can have in any emergency situation.”

The app is free and offered through the iTunes Store, searching by keywords ‘Kissimmee’ or ‘hurricane.’
