BELLWOOD, Ill. (PRWEB) September 18, 2012
“In the church setting, I trained and empowered members to become better caregivers to their loved ones. The two years in the hospice helped me to realize that it was time to write what I had learned academically and experientially,” explains author Rev. Janet Mitchell Hisbon. To help those finding themselves as a caregiver to the elderly, Hisbon, who has over 24 years of experience in long term care, pens her new book, “Lifting Up The Senior Spirit” (published by AuthorHouse).
This book was written to help anyone who finds themselves in the role of caregiver to understand the spiritual journey of aging. It offers resourceful information and wisdom about the pilgrimage of older adults facing the actual challenges of the transitions caused by aging, loss of health and how it affects their belief system.
Hisbon’s topic is a timely one for most families. Parents are living longer and families are becoming their caregivers in and out of the home. She soon realized there is a need for information and support to all involved.
“Adult children are taking care of their parents while taking care of their own families and working in their careers which have been coined as the Sandwich Generation,” tells Hisbon. “One family member referred to in the book called it ‘an enormous juggling act of monumental proportions.’ There are lots of questions and few answers or solutions.”
“Lifting Up The Senior Spirit” addresses the current struggles that families are incurring and finding little practical answers to.
