Chicago, IL (PRWEB) September 18, 2012

Crowds gathered all day on Wednesday, Sept. 12, as Pizza Persona, on the border of Lincoln Park and Lakeview, gave away hundreds of free, 10-inch pizzas to Ox&Pen members redeeming a one-day-only promotion. The independently-owned shop was making as many pizzas in a few hours as it typically does in one day.

In collaboration with Ox&Pen, Chicago’s universal loyalty network, the free pizza offer was scheduled to last until Pizza Persona closed at 10 p.m. or until supplies ran out. Due to buzz about the event on social media and in the Tribune’s Redeye, supplies ran out first. The pizza dough, one of the Diversey restaurant’s keys to success, ran out by 8:30 p.m.

In an effort to make good on the one-day offer, Pizza Persona founders and owners James Kinnaird and Jeffrey Zucker gave out buy-one-get-one-free vouchers to the few stragglers who arrived later in the evening.

Similarly, Ox&Pen offered each pizza-less patron 1,000 universal loyalty points—which can be redeemed for $12 worth of food and drink at Pizza Persona or other rewards at any merchant in the Ox&Pen network.

“The day turned out to be a huge success,” said Pizza Persona co-founder James Kinnaird. “While unexpected, we were delighted with the hype surrounding the Free Pizza Day. We look forward to the return of hundreds of satisfied customers.”

“We couldn’t be happier about the way the event turned out,” commented Andrew Gluck, Ox&Pen founder and CEO. “It was a pleasure to partner up with Pizza Persona as we continue to introduce and promote merchants in the Ox&Pen network.”

Last week’s one-day giveaway was part of Ox&Pen’s ongoing commitment to supporting local shopping and dining throughout the city. The loyalty network, comprised strictly of unique, local merchants, rewards customers with points for purchases, check-ins, social shares and merchant reviews.
