The Alabama Media Group has announced key members of its sales and marketing leadership team overseeing digital and print advertising solutions for al.com, The Birmingham News, The Huntsville Times, Mobile Press-Register and The Mississippi Press.
Natalie Pruitt will be appointed as Vice President, Sales and will lead multimedia sales efforts and ad operations in Birmingham, Mobile, Huntsville and southern Mississippi. Her team will consult with local and national clients, providing a variety of marketing solutions to deliver the best results. Pruitt is currently VP of Advertising at The Huntsville Times, where she has led the advertising division since 2010. Prior to Huntsville, Pruitt served as the VP of Advertising and Interactive Media at The Sun News in Myrtle Beach, S.C., where she worked from 1996 to 2010. A former journalist, Pruitt graduated from Coastal Carolina University with a degree in English.
Dee Dee Mathis will be Vice President, Digital Solutions and will guide the evolving portfolio of product offerings for all aspects of digital marketing including search engine marketing, social media and advanced audience targeting on al.com and beyond. In this newly-appointed role, Mathis will lead a team of account executives and senior managers that will focus on digitally intrinsic categories such as automotive, recruitment, tourism and education as well as the development of Alabama Media Group's emerging markets. Under Dee Dee's leadership as Sales Director for the last ten years, al.com expanded their sales efforts exponentially, growing beyond their newspaper footprint into Tuscaloosa, Montgomery, Atlanta and Panama City Beach.
Vicki Applewhite will be Vice President, Strategy and Marketing. Applewhite will lead strategy development in Alabama and Mississippi and marketing for the Alabama Media Group newspapers and its emerging markets. Applewhite currently serves as Vice President, Advertising and Marketing for the Press-Register in Mobile, Alabama and will continue to work from Mobile in her new role.
Jane Katona will be promoted to Sales Director in Birmingham. She is currently a sales manager at The Birmingham News, leading digital sales efforts and managing the training program. Prior to working at The News, Katona served in sales leadership at The Wichita Eagle and The Daytona Beach News-Journal. In this new role, she will be responsible for leading a sales team that serves the advertising needs of local business in Birmingham.
Marcy Maholovich will be promoted to Sales Director in Mobile. She is currently the al.com Advertising Sales Supervisor for Mobile. A graduate of the University of Alabama, Maholovich has been an employee of al.com since 2003. In this new role, she will be responsible for leading a sales team that serves the advertising needs of local businesses in Mobile.
Lindy Studds will join the company as Sales Director in Huntsville. She was most recently a sales leader at The Sun News in Myrtle Beach, S.C. A graduate of Coastal Carolina University, Studds has worked at The Sun News since 2005 in various leadership and sales roles. In this new role, she will be responsible for leading a sales team that serves the advertising needs of local businesses in Huntsville.
Kip Willoughby will be Director, Automotive Sales. In this role, Willoughby is responsible for print and online sales and support for all automotive clients. A graduate of The University of Alabama, Willoughby has been with al.com since 2003.
Joseph Dabbs will be Director, Advanced Audience Targeting. Dabbs will work with leadership and account executives across the sales organization to build effective digital impression campaigns for clients on al.com and online ad networks using behavioral and geographic targeting. Dabbs is a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi and most recently served as Director of Digital Media for WBRC, FOX6 in Birmingham.
Larry Leibengood will serve as Director, Sales Operations for Alabama Media Group. Larry is currently the Director of Classified Advertising for The Birmingham News where he has worked for the past 12 years. Prior to that, Leibengood was the Classified and Local Retail Advertising Manager at The State newspaper in Columbia, SC. He will oversee fulfillment, new business development and target marketing such as direct mail.
Laurel Hoag will be Sales Manager, National for Alabama Media Group. Hoag is currently a Major/National Sales Manager for The Birmingham News where she has worked for the past 25 years. She began as an Account Executive with The Birmingham News and held multiple positions including Food Sales Coordinator and Senior Account Executive.
Rashida Reese has been recently hired as Regional Recruitment Manager. Reese will focus on servicing clients who are seeking top talent for company job openings with marketing solutions across a variety of platforms. Formerly, Reese served as Interactive Sales Manager at WVTM, NBC13 in Birmingham and is a proud graduate of The University of Alabama Birmingham.
Deidra Perry will join the company as Sales Manager of Birmingham Magazine. She was recently the Director of Advancement at The University of Alabama, directing fundraising and events. Previously, she was a Senior Account Executive with Cox Media Group in Birmingham and prior to that was an Account Executive at The Birmingham News for nine years. She will lead the magazine sales division in Birmingham.
Ray Hydrick will be Sales Manager, Tourism and Education. As a member of Mathis’s team, Hydrick will focus on building the client base in the tourism and education categories. Hydrick has over 20 years of advertising sales experience and has a degree from Mississippi State University.
Julie Levinson-Gabis will be Sales Manager, New Markets. Levinson-Gabis will work with the sales team and client base in the company’s non-newspaper footprint which includes Tuscaloosa, Montgomery, Atlanta and the Gulf Coast.
B.J. Hamner, Rich McClennen and Ronni Roye will serve as Audience Solutions Managers in the Birmingham office. In this role, the team members will work with account executives to put together effective online marketing campaigns for clients.
B. J. Hamner is currently an Account Executive for al.com where he has worked for the past four years. He also has prior experience in magazine and radio sales and served as Creative Director for Wheeler Advertising in Birmingham.
Rich McClennan is currently a Multimedia Sales Manager for The Birmingham News where he has worked for the past six months. Previously, McClennen was the Senior Advertising Manager at The Wichita Eagle since 2009. Roye is currently a Multimedia Sales Manager for The Birmingham News where she has worked for the past 12 years.
Ronni Roye began as an intern with The Birmingham News and specializes in customizing multimedia advertising campaigns across various business categories. Roye is a graduate of the University of Alabama.
Chad Ludwig will serve as Audience Solutions Manager in North Alabama. Ludwig is currently a Multimedia Sales Manager for the Huntsville Times, where he has worked for the past eight months. Prior to that, Ludwig was the Business Development Director of LearningsEarnings.com and a Digital Manager with AT&T.
Kathy Cowart will be Local Platform Manager for Alabama Media Group. Cowart is currently a Multimedia Sales Manager for The Birmingham News, where she has worked for the past 14 years. Prior to that, Cowart was the Classified Advertising Manager at Louisiana Strategic Marketing Group and held the same position at The Montgomery Advertiser.
Karen Fromhold will be appointed as Call Center Manager for Alabama Media Group. Fromhold is currently a Multimedia Sales Manager for The Birmingham News, where she has worked for the past six years. Prior to that, Fromhold worked for CNHI, The Daytona Beach News-Journal and Opelika-Auburn News. She has background experience as a recruitment sales manager, call center sales manager, retail sales manager and training manager.
In addition, Alabama Media Group announces two automotive sales managers who will report to Kip Willoughby.
Kelly Barber will oversee automotive sales and client support for the South Alabama region. Barber mostly recently served as Automotive Account Executive at al.com and previously worked for WALA Fox10 and Eastern Shore Toyota.
Eddie Graves will oversee an automotive-focused sales team in the Central and North Alabama markets. Graves has over 25 years in the automotive industry and most recently was Automotive Sales Manager at The Birmingham News.
Erin Chambers will be Marketing Manager for Alabama Media Group. Chambers currently serves as Marketing Manager for al.com and is responsible for media planning, content alliances and other marketing duties for the company. Chambers is a graduate of The University of Mississippi.
Amy Polley will join the company as Marketing Manager with a focus on business to business. Polley previously worked for Birmingham-based software company Daxko. Her experience includes development of marketing plans for progressive non-profits including professional and trade associations and over 450 YMCAs nationwide.
Thomas Rooney will serve as Creative Services Manager for Alabama Media Group. Based in the Mobile office, Rooney will oversee a team of creative consultants that develop multi- media campaigns for clients as well as Alabama Media Group’s newspapers and emerging markets.
Thomas previously served for the Press Register as Ad Services Manager for the past 13 years.
