During his keynote speech at the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Conference (USHCC), Presidential candidate Mitt Romney highlighted Martha de la Torre as an example of a successful Latina entrepreneur creating jobs in America.

Referring to El Clasificado, Governor Romney acknowledged that the classified advertising industry is a tough business. “Martha adapted with the times. She became an expert in search engine marketing and she turned into an online powerhouse,” affirmed Mr. Romney in front of a crowd of over 3,000 Hispanic business leaders from around the United States and from 14 other countries.

Ms. De la Torre started El Clasificado as a weekly publication in Los Angeles 24 years ago, and has grown it into a company, which employs 170 employees, and reaches more than 1.5 million Hispanics every week from the Central Valley to San Diego.

“Throughout the years, there were times when we did not know if we would survive. Today, our business is healthy, but tax cuts of the kind that Governor Romney talked about today, for small businesses, is what we need to continue to grow and thrive”.

This recognition by Governor Romney couldn’t be more timely. El Clasificado announced today that it reached the 500,000 circulation milestone, making it the largest Spanish-language classifieds free publication in the nation.
