Carson Wrapped Hershey's Chocolates announced today the acquisition of Watson's Baby Bar of Houma, LA, consolidating the company's position in the personalized candy bar favor and gift market.
Scott J. Frederick, CEO and President of Carson Wrapped Hershey’s Chocolates said "We have always regarded Watson's Baby Bar as our main competitor in the personalized candy bar business and this acquisition is a pivotal step in our five year planned growth strategy."
Frederick continued, "Since the economic downturn began in 2008, we have invested back into our business and become much more efficient. We have focused on each of our core markets, maintained strong, loyal customer relationships and developed many new personalized Hershey’s bar products and gifts. We will expand our online sales 25% immediately and our overall customer base by 40% with this acquisition. As the economic recovery continues, the acquisition of Watson’s Baby Bar will dramatically accelerate the return on our investments over the last several years, as well as allow us to enjoy the pending growth wave predicted by Hershey's CEO."
Carson Wrapped Hershey's offers personalized Hershey’s bars and favors with wrappers featuring photos and custom graphic designs. Since 2007, the market for personalized gifts has grown by double digits due to the proliferation of data based marketing and web-based technologies. According to an InfoTrends' research study, "U.S. custom photo gifts and merchandise will account for nearly 70% of the projected $1.5B in 2012 online personalized photo gift sales, up from less than 50% in 2007. As online services continue to develop innovative custom photo gift items that cannot be produced at retail stores, they will remain the primary channel for ordering photo gifts for the foreseeable future." Adding to this rosy outlook is the 50% sales increase over the next five years projected ahead of the June, 2012, company investor's meeting held by CEO John Bilbray, CEO of The Hershey Company.
