Spearheading trends which promote the alignment of business and social responsibility, Coex aims to make Food Week 2012 a truly ethical exhibition by incorporating project ‘Food Bank’. ‘Food Bank’ will see food product donations made by manufacturers and individual contributors at Food Week 2012 delivered to specially chosen recipients and charities in Korea. Korean broadcasting agency MBC is to provide on-site coverage of the Food Bank project, with interviews with donators to be broadcast live at the event. All proceeds from visitor entrance fees to Food Week 2012 are to go toward the management of this aid-giving enterprise.
The initiative comes after an MOU signed between Coex and the Korea National Council on Social Welfare earlier in the year pledged that efforts would be made by both parties to promote corporate responsibility alongside Coex events.
Food Week, which last year greeted over 90,000 visitors, almost 120 exhibits from 33 countries, and more than 1,600 domestic firms, aims to feature goods and products from every sector of the global food industry. As the largest and busiest food exhibition in Korea, Food Week 2012 will once again provide a business hub for buyers and sellers in the international food industry. This year, the event is expected to expand to welcome more than 1,000 domestic and overseas exhibitors spread over a staggering 2,000 exhibition booths.
Overseas buyers attending Food Week Korea 2012 will also be given the opportunity to participate in an exclusive business matching program which offers one-on-one meetings with manufacturers also in attendance at the show. Coex’s ‘Bizmatching’ initiative last year facilitated 700 meetings between domestic and international firms, resulting in an estimated US$150 million worth of transnational sales.
Alongside the charity initiative, other concurrent events at Food Week include food symposiums, vendor seminars, interactive workshops and demonstrations, and a live cooking show featuring internationally-renowned star chefs. All of these events are to provide prime networking opportunities alongside outstanding industry-related entertainment.
