Assistance League of Phoenix is seeking individuals who want volunteer opportunities, personal growth, leadership skills, and camaraderie to attend an introductory coffee on Monday, Oct. 1, 2012 at 10 a.m.

Last year, Assistance League of Phoenix members volunteered over 25,000 hours, and spent over $500,000 serving nearly 43,000 children and families in the greater Phoenix community through five Philanthropic Programs.

Assistance League of Phoenix is seeking individuals who want volunteer opportunities, personal growth, leadership skills, and camaraderie.

An introductory coffee on Monday, Oct. 1, 2012 at 10 a.m. will kick off the organization’s semi-annual membership recruitment. The informal event will offer an opportunity to meet several active members and will introduce the organization’s new executive director, Aimee Runyon.

Assistance League is an equal-opportunity volunteer-driven organization, and membership is open to anyone without regard to age, race, color, gender, religion, or national origin.

Members set their own volunteer schedule, and many volunteer opportunities are available. New members can become involved in outfitting school children with new clothes, distributing children’s books, evaluating scholarship recipients, preparing layettes for newborns, or sewing accessories on stuffed bears. Assistance League’s largest program, Operation School Bell®, provides new school clothing for children in need at over 60 Title I elementary schools in the Phoenix area.

In addition, Assistance League of Phoenix operates a Thrift Shop, with the proceeds of all donations going back into the community. Volunteers can find their niche working on the sales floor or in the workroom preparing items for sale.

The Thrift Shop is located at 7044 North 7th Street in central Phoenix. Regular hours of operation for the Thrift Shop are Tuesday-Friday 9:30 – 3:30 and Saturday 9:30-1:30.

Assistance League of Phoenix has more than 250 members and is part of a national non-profit organization with more than 220 chapters nationwide. Last year, Assistance League of Phoenix members volunteered over 25,000 hours, and spent over $500,000 serving nearly 43,000 children and families in the greater Phoenix community through five Philanthropic Programs. The organization recently celebrated 50 years of service to the Phoenix community.
