In a move that indicates an aggressive plan to target both ad agencies and mobile brand advertisers, MoPub announces today that long-time ad tech thought leader Paul Gelb has joined the team as the Head of Strategy. Paul joins MoPub from Razorfish, where he started the firm’s mobile practice and built it to become the second largest and fastest growing mobile advertising agency, according to AdAge.
“Paul is a clear industry leader when it comes to mobile advertising. He has unparalleled mobile ad experience, and is a pioneer in this burgeoning industry, having consistently delivered groundbreaking work on the agency side for years,” says Jim Payne, MoPub CEO. “As MoPub’s Head of Strategy, we’ll be able to leverage his insights on the advertiser side to help publishers drive more revenue. His contributions to building MoPub’s footprint with agencies and brand advertisers will be impactful to our publishers.”
MoPub currently serves over 15 billion ads per month across 10,000 apps and 5,000 publishers. Its proprietary Real Time Bidding auction platform, MoPub Marketplace, connects publishers to over forty demand-side platforms, ad networks and first party bidders in a competitive auction environment, together representing hundreds of advertisers. MoPub operates the largest programmatic buying exchange in the smartphone app economy.
“MoPub is cracking the problem of monetization for publishers with their exclusive focus on mobile,” says Gelb. “It is clear that the industry has reached a point where a platform exclusively focused on mobile is needed to maximize the opportunities in this dynamic, high growth channel. MoPub is that platform. They’ve already locked in the publisher side of the equation, and together, we’ll now make heavy inroads into agencies and brand advertisers. I can say with total confidence that they have the potential to exceed the most aggressive ad revenue expectations.”
About MoPub: MoPub is the world’s largest ad server for smartphone app publishers, designed to drive more ad revenue through a single solution. Unlike other ad servers, exchanges and mediation networks that only provide one solution, MoPub manages all of a publisher’s advertising inventory needs—including direct campaigns, ad networks mediation and real-time bidding on MoPub Marketplace—in a single product. MoPub’s open-source, flexible SDK means users get complete control and transparency into how much revenue they are receiving from every ad campaign.
MoPub was founded by former AdMob and Google team members and has raised $6.5 million in venture capital from Accel Partners, Harrison Metal Capital, and AngelPad.
