"We are excited about the new findings presented on AHCC this year as they continue to show the promising effects on immune-compromised patient populations," said Dan Kenner, Chairman of the AHCC Research Association

In July, the AHCC Research Association sponsored 20 professionals representing US-based nutritional supplement companies and health food store retailers to attend the 20th International Congress on Nutrition and Integrative Medicine held in Sapporo, Japan, an event that attracted over 400 researchers, doctors and nutritional supplement industry professionals from across the world.

The symposium, organized by the AHCC Research Association and supported by the Hokkaido Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry and Amino Up Chemical, featured scientific presentations on recently conducted studies involving Japanese nutraceutical ingredients including Active Hexose Correlated Compound (AHCC®), Oligonol® and Perilla Extract.

AHCC is a natural immune-modulating ingredient derived from the mycelia (roots) of several subspecies of Japanese medicinal mushrooms. Supported by over 20 human clinical studies, AHCC has been demonstrated to help patients with liver disease, cancer, hepatitis, infections, numerous chronic conditions as well as healthy people seeking to regulate their immune systems.

This year’s symposium presented new data on AHCC that studied the effects on patients with breast cancer, head and neck tumors, as well as those under palliative care. For more information on AHCC, visit the AHCC Research Association.

In addition, new data on Oligonol, an innovative antioxidant and anti-aging nutritional supplement, was presented from studies on the effects of the supplement on endothelial function as well as the impact on the body after heat stress.

“We are excited about the new findings presented on AHCC this year as they continue to show the promising effects on immune-compromised patient populations,” said Dan Kenner, the Chairman of the AHCC Research Association. “In addition to sharing this cutting-edge research, the global congress provides excellent networking opportunities and includes events that highlight the culture of Japan. We have over 100 alumni attendees who have attended this event over the past decade and many describe it as an unforgettable experience.”

About AHCC
Active Hexose Correlated Compound (AHCC) is one of the world's most researched natural immune-modulating compounds. A fermented extract of medicinal mushroom mycelia, AHCC is supported by more than 20 human clinical studies and has been the subject of over 30 scientific papers published in prestigious PubMed-indexed journals. AHCC has been clinically shown to improve the activity of Natural Killer (NK) Cells, Dendritic Cells and Cytokines, which enable the body to effectively respond to infections and block the proliferation of abnormal cells. AHCC has been studied at some of the world’s most prestigious research universities including Yale Medical School, Columbia Presbyterian, MD Anderson and the Harvard-affiliated Bringham and Women’s Hospital. AHCC is used as a complementary immunotherapy in the fields of oncology and hepatology alongside traditional pharmaceutical and surgical treatments. It is also prescribed to immune-compromised patients in hospital settings both prior and post-surgery. Hundreds of clinics worldwide regularly recommend AHCC to their patients. Due to its well established safety profile, AHCC is also widely used prophylactically by healthy adults.

About Oligonol
Produced from the extracts of lychee fruit and green tea using a patented oligomerization process, Oligonol is the world’s first commercially produced low-molecular-weight polyphenol. One if its unique features is the high content of short-chain polymers which provides the product with superior bioavailability and much greater biological activity. Oligonol has been accepted as a "New Dietary Ingredient" by the FDA, has attained self-affirmed GRAS status and received the prestigious Nutracon award as the Top Evidence-based New Ingredient of 2008. In October 2011, Oligonol won SupplySide West’s Scientific Excellence Award for its strong portfolio of human clinical studies.

About the AHCC Research Association
The mission of the AHCC Research Association is to increase public awareness of Active Hexose Correlated Compound (AHCC) as well as a Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) approach, educate consumers and doctors on AHCC’s preventative and therapeutic benefits, and support research studies on AHCC and other compounds used for human health.
