Nearly One Hundred Businesses and Individuals Came to Miller Recycling and Were Lifted High in the Air to View the Company’s New 300 kW Roof Mounted Solar Array

Wednesday, September 12th was a picture perfect day for solar as guests were lifted in groups of eight nearly 60 feet in the air to see a commercial roof mounted solar array up close. Miller Recycling held the event to show their ongoing commitment to renewable energy and their latest sustainability initiative. The educational event included lift rides to view the array, presentations on the benefits of solar energy and tours of the Miller Recycling facility. The Solar Power After Hours Event lasted nearly four hours.

Energy Systems & Installation (ESI), a regional energy solutions company with offices in North Oxford, Massachusetts, designed and constructed the 300kW solar array. On hand from ESI was the installation team that designed and installed the system. ESI staff operated the lift, explained the particulars of the Miller Recycling solar project and gave several presentations. Each 30 minute presentation keyed in on the theme of “Solar 101” to introduce attendees to the technical and financial aspects of going solar.

Randy Miller, CEO of the 70 year old, 4th generation company commented, “We were thrilled to share our experiences of going solar with so many businesses from our local area and beyond. So far, we’ve been very pleased with the performance of the array and expect significant electrical savings for our operation.”

The project took approximately three months to complete and came on-line in July. To monitor the array, Miller Recycling installed a video monitor in their lobby. The monitor shows ongoing performance reports of how much electricity the array is producing, as well as other sustainability attributes. In addition, it shows the overall effect of not using fossil fuels to produce the electricity they consume. According to Mr. Miller, “The monitoring is pretty amazing. Not only does it have an easy to understand “dashboard and gauges” interface, it’s a daily reminder that while the solar array was a very good business decision, we can take great pride that we’re doing our part to contribute to a healthier environment.” The monitoring is also a link on the Miller Recycling website. Corey Wolff, CEO of ESI was also pleased with the large turnout, “Miller Recycling has deep roots in their community so when they do something as significant as this project, a lot of people want to see what it is all about. We were honored to be chosen to design and construct this project.” Corey also hinted that with the significant interest in this Solar Power After Hours Event, it may become a semi-regular event.
