About the Eames DAR Style Chair

Originally conceived and constructed near the end of the 1940s, the Eames DAR Style Chair won its first design award in 1948, when it was honored by none other than the prestigious MOMA, more formally known as the Museum of Modern Art, in New York. From its inception, the chair was rightfully regarded as a breakthrough, thanks to its highly molded fiberglass seat and a base that calls to mind a highly modernized and stylized version of the Eiffel Tower.

Responsible for the design were Ray and Charles Eames, who sought to combine a style that would look effortless, with structural elements that would provide strength and durability. The result was a comfortable, yet stylish, chair that was well worth the price, since it was designed to last for many years. It was not long before the Eames DAR Style Chair became something of an icon for the entire decade of the Fifties.

Functional features

Furniture art is always at its most successful when outstanding style characteristics are combined with highly functional elements that add to the true usability of a piece. This is precisely the case with the Eames DAR Style Chair; each of the four feet terminates in rubber gliders that combine several advantages in one. There is no danger that the chair's metal legs will scratch flooring surfaces, yet the rubber is designed to also prevent scuffmarks.

Because the rubber gliders reduce potential friction issues, it also becomes much easier to move the chair around the room. This offers consumers two advantages, not only does it save on back and neck strain, it also makes the chair more useful, since it can be more easily transported into different rooms, as required. Finally, the rubber feet provide enhancement in terms of seating comfort, acting as a form of shock absorber when someone sits down or adjusts their positions in the chair.

The iconic styling of the Eames DAR Style Chair is available in a diverse range of colors, yellow, white, sky blue, black, red and orange being favorites. Each chair features a base finished in gleaming chrome. To see photographs from several angles, visit http://www.serenitylivingstores.com/iFN-Modern-Eames-DAR-Style-Chair-3947.html.
