"If small businesses are the growth engines of our economy, then SBA is the vital engineer who keeps the engine roaring” - Payal Kamdar, VSolvit CEO.

After leading VSolvit to national recognition for geospatial application development, CEO Payal Kamdar was honored by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) for driving VSolvit’s “exemplary growth and success.” Payal was ranked the best small business person amongst nominations from across Region IX which includes California, Arizona, Nevada, and Hawaii. Ms. Kamdar will be traveling to Washington, D.C. in October to receive the honor on behalf of VSolvit.

Ms. Kamdar founded VSolvit in 2006, as an American company focused on technology services and consulting for the Navy. In 2010, VSolvit landed a 5-year $14.5M contract with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development Agency in support of their enterprise geospatial and information technology systems. While this award was ambitious for the young startup, VSolvit executed flawlessly and delivered exceptionally. For its outstanding performance, VSolvit was recognized as the USDA Woman Owned Business of the Year in 2011. In spite of the tough economic environment, VSolvit’s customer list has grown and includes multiple agencies within the Navy and USDA as well as the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and multiple state and local government agencies.

Ms. Kamdar acknowledges that her success is in large part due to the VSolvit team members, the SBA and her advisors. “Without the generous support from SBA and its programs, VSolvit could not have transformed from a one person outfit in 2006 to the successful company it is today. If small businesses are the growth engines of our economy, then SBA is the vital engineer who keeps the engine roaring.”

Ms. Kamdar is also a graduate of the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program with Long Beach Community College District. “I am a technologist at heart, and have deep technical roots. An effective entrepreneur should be able to think simultaneously in multiple dimensions such as technology, finance, HR, marketing, etcetera. I credit the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program with providing the foundation, environment and network to enable me to think multi-dimensionally.”
