After losing his spouse, and having searched for books on bereavement, author and widower Michael E. Cohen found that every book he came across was geared towards women who had lost their husbands. It was this reason that he pens his own story, “Mike & Heather: A Young Widower's Short Story” (published by AuthorHouse).

“I wanted to share my story with other widowers,” Cohen explains, “so they could know they weren’t alone.”

Mike & Heather” is a short, bittersweet, story of a young man and his wife spanning from the time they met to her death from cancer. Cohen’s story spans a total of six years and is honest, sincere, and to the point.

An excerpt from “Mike & Heather”:

“I still felt I wanted to marry her. I had the engagement rings, and still felt the same way. I truly wanted to be her husband. It’s hard to put into words, I wasn’t going to let a thing like cancer spoil our lives.”

It is truly a touching and empowering story for the men who have lost the woman they loved. Women will also have a better understanding of what a widower goes through.

It is Cohen’s hope that his story will help other young widowers realize they can deal with their wife’s death and continue on to live a happy life.

“All your feelings are okay and you will live on and be happy. You will not forget your wife. The pain never goes away, but you can be happy again.”
