Preston, UK (PRWEB UK) 22 September 2012
Preston has seen a rise in new company registrations during the first half of 2012. There were 908 companies formed during this period, representing a 7.1% rise on the same period in 2011.
Company registrations in Preston reached an all-time high in 2003, before recession hit the UK. During the first six months of the year, there were 995 new companies formed - more than any other first half year on record for the city. However, numbers dipped sharply in the first half of 2004, when there were just 623 company formations, before rising to 884 during the first half of 2007. Numbers dropped again in 2008, but have been on the rise ever since.
Preston is on the verge of a major regeneration programme, set to cost £1.8 billion. The project will deliver a new Central Business District, enabling continued expansion of the business services sector. There will also be improved accessibility to the city centre and enhancement of parks and green spaces.
Managing Director of Duport.co.uk, Peter Valaitis commented:
“The statistics in our latest report for Preston show uneven growth in new company registrations since 2003, reflecting a difficult and uncertain economic climate."
“However, the huge regeneration project that is about to take place can only benefit the economy of the city and is certainly good news for new businesses setting up there.”
With company formations on the rise and significant investment into regenerating the city, it is hoped that Preston will weather the economic storm and enjoy a prosperous future as an important part of the UK economy.
