“I am a regular visitor at Walter Reed National Medical Center at Bethesda, and continue to be inspired by the bravery and patriotism of every one of the seriously wounded troops and their family members,” said Ken Falke.

Boulder Crest Retreat, a 37- acre privately-funded Loudoun County facility with accommodations and recreational therapeutic services aimed at helping wounded warriors and their families relax and reconnect, has just received a $500,000 donation from the Annenberg Foundation.
The Retreat, founded by Ken Falke, a retired U.S. Navy EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) expert and successful local entrepreneur, has raised more than $4 million in private donations to build cabins, a meeting house, roads, a pond and other facilities to provide a get-away for troops who have suffered permanent injuries and loss of limbs in combat. Boulder Crest, a non-profit organization, is being built on the private land he and his wife donated in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains to provide a respite from the stress of clinical hospital environments and rehabilitation treatments these wounded warriors live in on a daily basis. Once completed, troops and their immediate families will be invited at no cost to spend one to two weeks in this beautiful country setting.
“I am a regular visitor at Walter Reed National Medical Center at Bethesda, and continue to be inspired by the bravery and patriotism of every one of the seriously wounded troops and their family members,” said Ken Falke. “So many of our young military warriors grow up in rural environments across America and long to go back to visit familiar country surroundings. Boulder Crest Retreat will provide this opportunity for them to reconnect and have a break during their hospital recovery,” explained Ken.
The project was announced last October with a $10 million capital budget goal. Nearly 350 supporters, donors, board members, county officials, friends and family of Ken Falke gathered on May 18, 2012 on the Boulder Crest Retreat site to celebrate the project’s official groundbreaking. It is scheduled to open in June 2013.
