Pittsburgh, PA (PRWEB) September 21, 2012
Event ticketing company ShowClix has confirmed that mobile tickets are now available through Passbook, the latest addition to Apple’s mobile app family.
Passbook promises to bring together all of a user’s retail coupons, boarding passes, event tickets and more in one convenient (digital) location, while still providing versatile support for 2D barcodes that can be scanned at the door, the gate or the register. The app is included when the device’s software is updated to iOS 6.
When event organizers and venue managers provide a mobile ticket delivery option, their ticket buyers and registrants will receive a text message with the option to store their tickets in Passbook, if they have a compatible Apple device.
ShowClix began working on the development of the Passbook integration in August in order to prepare for the operating system’s projected September release.
Over two-thirds of the company’s 5,000 clients currently offer mobile ticket delivery, and now they will all be able to provide Passbook tickets for their customers.
“Mobile ticket delivery was one of our first big developments back in 2008,” ShowClix CEO Joshua Dziabiak said. “Now that four times as many of our tickets are delivered directly to smartphones, we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to take advantage of a cool new technology that has been custom tailored for mobile leaders in our industry.”
Since 2010, ShowClix has also utilized the Apple iOS to support their ticket scanners. Built internally by the company, the Axess ticket scanning app transforms any compatible iPhone, iPod touch or iPad into a ticket scanner, simply using the phone’s camera to scan 1D and 2D barcodes.
“By standardizing mobile ticket delivery, Passbook will be a major step forward for paperless ticketing,” Dziabiak said. “Our mission has always been to make ticketing easier—whether it’s buying or selling tickets—and as more people are beginning to make the switch to mobile, we want to be right there for them.”
