Unfortunately, only about 5 percent of U.S. companies export, and of those, only 1 percent export to more than one country.

Louisville, Kentucky (PRWEB) September 20, 2012

Robert Brown, Partner in the Louisville office of Bingham Greenebaum Doll LLP, has been elected to the U.S. Department of Commerce 2013 District Export Council National Steering Committee. Brown will draw from his successes as chair of Kentucky’s revitalized District Export Council (DEC) to help companies across the nation increase exports around the world.

“Unfortunately, only about 5 percent of U.S. companies export, and of those, only 1 percent export to more than one country. By serving on the National Steering Committee, my priority will be to increase export awareness among U.S. companies and to ease the U.S. trade imbalance,” Brown said.

One of Brown’s more salient accomplishments through Kentucky’s DEC has been bringing together about 20 organizations that want to increase exports. Brown helped them develop a common strategic plan that tore down institutional silos, and at the same time identified separate footprints for each of them where they could concentrate. He will bring this same approach to the District Export Council National Steering Committee. Brown also serves as Chair of the World Trade Center Kentucky.

Brown’s election has strong potential to continue to benefit clients and companies with whom he has worked on local and regional levels.

“Our firm will now have a national platform where we can push issues of greatest importance to companies in our region. We can also keep these companies informed of emerging trends and opportunities for them to increase their sales by looking overseas,” Brown said.

Brown is a member of the Corporate and Transactional Practice Group at Bingham Greenebaum Doll LLP. He has worked closely with international companies as an investment banker and attorney, serving both in-house and as an outside advisor. His previous experience includes assignments in London, New York City, Tokyo, San Francisco and San Diego.

The Committee, together with the regional DEC executive committees, government leaders, and international trade experts, work to create an annual strategic plan for all of the major DEC initiatives. Closely affiliated with the U.S. Commercial Service's U.S. Export Assistance Centers, the 56 DECs nationwide are organizations comprised of leaders from their local business community.
