The Santa Fe Culinary Academy is coming to Santa Fe, New Mexico. The SFCA will be opening its doors to the public September, 2012. The SFCA is founded by two of Santa Fe’s foremost food educators; chefs Rocky Durham and Tanya Story. Chef Durham has over 30 years experience with restaurant and culinary education, is a TV personality and native Santa Fean. Tanya Story is an Executive Pastry Chef and a professor of culinary arts. The school is in a featured article on SantaFe.com and Hutton Broadcasting radio stations.

The SFCA is arranged into two separate third-floor units of the Plaza Mercado Building. It will feature classes designed for professional chefs wanting to develop new skills, as well as classes for aspiring culinary professionals who love food and cooking. The SFCA will provide locals and out-of-town-guests with exciting, fun and educational classes, community events and one-of-a-kind culinary experiences. The facility features two demonstration kitchens, three lab-kitchens, a student run restaurant, Santa Fe’s best selection of cookbooks and a premier events venue including the only private, top-floor portal in the city.

“Our endeavor will be positively transformative to the culinary world as well as strengthening our community through the vehicle of food.” Durham proudly declares.

Pending licensure from the New Mexico Department of Higher Education, the SFCA will launch its 1-year, professional program in 2013. The program’s core curriculum is rooted in disciplines derived from apprenticeship, classical French technique, externship and modern restaurant techniques and practices. The school is creating curricula that will be unique in the world of culinary institutions. Graduates of the SFCA’s professional program will be among the most qualified, restaurant-ready individuals coming out of any American culinary program.

The SFCA views their endeavor as much more than a place to take cooking classes but rather a conduit for building community through the vehicle of food. Tanya, Rocky and the new school’s band of chefs, winemakers and culinary professional invite everyone to come by and see what’s cooking.
