My Wild Backyard: Wild Hogs is a children’s book that shares a clear glimpse into the world of feral hog hunting in the Texan country. Written by author Gloria Adele, this colorful picture book highlights the technical aspects of hunting down wild hogs and shows readers various ways hog hunters try to eliminate these disruptive creatures from Texas, one of the most feral hog-infested States in America.

According to an article by John Morthland posted in the January 2011 edition of the Smithsonian magazine, “Wild hogs are among the most destructive invasive species in the United States today. Two million to six million of the animals are wreaking havoc in at least 39 states and four Canadian provinces; half are in Texas, where they do some $400 million in damages annually…” Hence, it is no longer a shock for most Texans that their government has permitted the hunting of feral or untamed wild hogs in any time of the day, all year round.

In My Wild Backyard: Wild Hogs, readers will follow through the author’s keen observations and accurate documentations of some encounters with wild hogs invading her backyard. From the sightings of their tracks, the evidences of their activities and the trails they leave behind, the author’s notes were compiled in order to tell a sequential story from the viewpoint and perception of a child. Complete with colorful pictures and details on how the feral hogs were discovered, as well as the mechanics of how professional hog hunters operate through careful, step-by-step methods.

This book will be featured at the 2012 New England Library Association Book Exhibit in Sturbridge, Mass. on Oct. 14-16, 2012 and at the 2012 New York Library Association Book Exhibit in Saratoga Springs, NY on Nov. 07, - Nov. 10, 2012.
