Improv Electronics announced today that CNBC recently recognized the Boogie Board LCD eWriter as one of the most innovative gadgets at the IFA Consumer Electronics Unlimited Show in Berlin. The Boogie Board Jot LCD eWriter, the newest model to join the line of tree-friendly, electronic paper replacements from Improv Electronics, appeared on CNBC’s televised show coverage during the prominent news outlet’s Most Innovative Gadgets of 2012 segment from Showstoppers at IFA. The segment is also posted on cnbc.com.

“We are honored CNBC recognized the Boogie Board LCD eWriter for its innovative features. The Reflex LCD technology utilized in Boogie Board eWriters is quite unique and has taken years to develop,” said Improv Electronics/Kent Displays CEO Dr. Albert Green. “Like paper, no power is required to write and draw on a Reflex LCD. Only a very small amount of power is required to erase. Writing on a Reflex LCD is also very comparable to pen on paper, unlike writing on TFT LCDs made on glass. The Reflex LCD in Boogie Board eWriters is made on plastic, which not only helps provide a superior writing experience but makes the LCD highly durable, flexible and shatterproof.”

Several prominent U.S. television shows also featured Boogie Board eWriters over the last month as a must have for back to school. These included The Talk, The Today Show and Good Morning America. Actor Nathan Fillion, star of the ABC show Castle, also tweeted about the new Boogie Board Jot LCD eWriter to his nearly 1.5 million followers.

The Boogie Board Jot LCD eWriter was unveiled to the European market at IFA. It was unveiled to the U.S. market at the New York City CEA Line Shows in late June and will be available for purchase in the U.S. at Bed, Bath and Beyond stores in early October. The Boogie Board Jot eWriter will begin shipping to European retailers in the next month.

The new Boogie Board Jot eWriter includes many exciting features:

  •     A sleek and contemporary metallic-look design available with red, blue and graphite accents
  •     Soft-touch back to provide grip and stability
  •     Tapered stylus that doubles as a stand for horizontal viewing (great for leaving messages on the kitchen counter)
  •     Integrated magnets for mounting to refrigerators, file cabinets and other metallic surfaces
  •     Replaceable coin cell battery (each battery provides over 50,000 erases)
  •     Erase lock switch to prevent accidental erasure of written/drawn images

The Boogie Board Rip™ LCD eWriter was also exhibited by Improv Electronics at IFA and drew major interest from the public, media and trades. The Boogie Board Rip eWriter includes memory to save images written and drawn on it. Written images can be converted to typewritten text with MyScript® Studio Notes Edition software (available separately). Virtual Desktop Companion software is included with the Boogie Board Rip eWriter and provides additional functionality including Evernote® integration and a virtual whiteboard mode.
