Fall is the perfect time to prepare a home for the cold winter months ahead. My Home Supervisor, Long Island's Premier Handyman, is now winterizing homes across Long Island. A little upkeep will ensure a massive bill won’t turn up unexpectedly this winter.
Here are a few things to check out to see what needs to be done.
For starters, check the attic for insulation, leaks, ventilation issues and living beings that that have no business being there. It’s also a good idea to inspect the kitchen countertops, shower doors/tub enclosures and windows and door screens for missing grout or caulking. If necessary, re-grouting and caulking should be done. Fireplaces should also be checked for cracks and flues should be cleaned periodically.
Keeping the heating bill in mind, adjust the travel and tension of the sectional garage doors. And don’t forget to clean refrigeration coils to ensure its staying as cool as it should be.
Finally, a little cleaning and maintenance of the heating and cooling systems, as well as an inspection of the combustible appliances will complete the basic fall maintenance tasks around the home.
