After sitting with many frustrated students who did not know how to decode (sound out) words, English teacher Marilyn Martyn devised a series of lessons that gave them the ability to decode quickly. “The method I show you in this book is based on my experience over many years. It can help you to re-enforce the lessons your child gets at school,” she says. These lessons are the foundation of her new book, Phonics for Kids.
With simple step-by-step instruction, Phonics for Kids helps children link the way sounds are written in English with the words they hear every day. It uses a proven method of teaching reading based on phonetics (the science dealing with speech sounds) that allows children to develop phonics, fluency, vocabulary knowledge and text comprehension. It also includes over 20 timeless stories that develop phrased and fluent reading. These stories also contribute to a child’s general knowledge and self development.
An invaluable resource material for parents, caregivers and students, Phonics for Kids does not talk down to children. Rather, it gives them easy ways that allow steady reading and spelling improvement.
