Blue Skye St. James, all of sixteen and afraid of being made a ward of the state, takes her life in hand when an accident took away the lives of her guardian grandmothers. Slipping into survival mode, she takes out everything in their safety deposit box and goes into hiding. People will be looking for her, not the least the father she never knew and a vengeful woman who blames Blue for her brother's suicide. Into the rabbit hole she goes and Sheila Kay Heaton’s Finding Blue Skye is off with suspense and anxiety for everyone involved.
This sets off a chain of events that arrives on several plateaus of storytelling magic: teenage adventure thriller, a warm, bracing family romance, and a story that, like its namesake character, pops out in unexpected places of literary and emotional affections. Blue is herself an iconic heroine, the one magical element in Sheila Kay Heaton’s superlative, cannily uncomplicated writing style who makes the novel grow wings and soar to its surprising conclusion.
For sixteen years, Jon St. James has lived with the heartache of being forced to give his baby daughter up for adoption. Then he finds out that his daughter’s mother went back to claim her before an adoption was final and he was not correctly notified. Getting Blue Skye back is a dream that keeps on getting put off with all the mundane problems of running a ranch. He sets out on a quest to find her news of Blue’s disappearance finds him. His search is made more difficult because his daughter is not only in hiding from a woman who has sworn to kill her. During the search he becomes involved with Stephanie, a very attractive woman, who isn’t aware that his daughter is someone she knows, although Blue Skye’s whereabouts is a mystery to Stephanie as well. Blue herself holds all the threads together to help everyone unravel the various dilemmas created by happenstance and intention. What no one knows is the most amazing, enexpected revelation is awaiting all of them.
