The Dirty Thirties, or the Dust Bowl, was a period of severe dust storms causing major ecological and agricultural damage to American and Canadian prairie lands in the 1930s, particularly in 1934 and 1936. T.T Hartman pens an honest account on how it was growing up during this period, through his entertaining memoir—20 Years to Life.

Born on 1935–at the time of The Dirty Thirties, Hartman’s early life was more than a walk in the park. As he recollects living the period during The Great Depression, he shares to readers how growing up in the 1930s greatly influenced his life. He gives a glimpse of his life story, the obstacles that came in the way, and how he never loses hope while battling through it all.

The story begins with a memory of the author’s childhood when he was still four years old and with his best pal, old Mr. King. He let Hartman shadow him every day as he walked the grounds and maintained his cabin camp. As the story unfolds, he shares his different adventures as a kid, his love for basketball, the girls in his past, and everything he had to go through growing up. This memoir also touches on his education, business venture, and how his writing career started. Hartman painted a beautiful picture of how an only child with an attitude finally comes of age.

Readers will sure to find a better understanding of The Dirty Thirties to the Nifty Fifties as they witness the past through the eyes of Hartman. 20 Years to life…A Memoir, vividly reflects the journey of a boy, from childhood to adulthood and the richness of a life he led.
