September 20, 2012 - Northern Westchester Hospital announced today that it has been recognized by the Joint Commission as one of the Top Performers on Key Quality Measures™ in its annual report: Improving America’s Hospitals. Northern Westchester Hospital is the only hospital in Westchester County to be recognized as one of the Highest Quality Hospitals in the United States and was among only 16 hospitals in New York State to receive this prestigious recognition.

“Our commitment to providing the highest quality medical care for our patients underscores everything that we do at Northern Westchester Hospital. Our philosophy of continuous improvement drives us to constantly identify ways to enhance patient care and we are proud to be named by the Joint Commission as being among the highest quality hospitals in the United States,” shared Joel Seligman, President and CEO of Northern Westchester Hospital.

According to the Joint Commission, the hospitals identified as attaining and sustaining excellence in accountability performance in 2011 represent approximately 18 percent of Joint Commission-accredited hospitals reporting core measure performance data. Northern Westchester Hospital was recognized for its achievement of excellence in accountability measure performance specifically pertaining to Heart Attack, Heart Failure, Pneumonia and Surgical Care.

The Joint Commission is an independent, not-for-profit organization. The Joint Commission accredits and certifies more than 19,000 health care organizations and programs in the United States. Joint Commission accreditation and certification is recognized nationwide as a symbol of quality that reflects an organization’s commitment to meeting certain performance standards. The Joint Commission evaluates hospital performance based upon clinical care that is more likely to have a significant impact on patient outcomes for those who have had a heart attack, heart failure or pneumonia, or who are undergoing certain surgical procedures; for children with asthma; and for patients receiving inpatient psychiatric care. The newly released Joint Commission report identifies top performing hospitals in the United States indicating they are providing the right care at the right time for patients.
