Mobile phones and smart devices offer many benefits, from the ease of checking e-mail and social networking sites to the constant availability of information. Along with their perks, however, these mobile devices also come with potential dangers—including a heightened risk of distraction, which can ultimately lead pedestrians to involvement in traffic accidents. Recent findings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration offer sobering insight into the ride of the distracted pedestrian—insight that has warranted the attention of Montlick & Associates.
Montlick & Associates is a Georgia-based personal injury firm. Specializing in representation for the victims of traffic accidents, Montlick & Associates reviews car, truck, and SUV cases alike. The firm also takes on many auto accident cases that involve pedestrians; as such, the firm was quick to notice the recent distracted pedestrian study, and to issue a comment.
“People are getting a lot better at understanding the everyday dangers of distracted driving, whether it involves texting, eating, talking on the phone, or putting on makeup,” says founding partner David R. Montlick, in a new statement to the press. “However, in our personal injury law practice, we are definitely seeing an increase in the incidence of injuries caused in whole or in part by distracted walking, where someone is not paying as much attention to what is going on around them as they ought to because they are on the cell phone, texting or listening to music.”
Montlick & Associates reviews many pedestrian accident cases, but it also seeks to make an impact in the Georgia community through social programs and PSAs. “We are trying to raise people's awareness of these dangers through our Family Safety Program, and we recently filmed and aired our family safety advocate discussing how to avoid these types of injuries in a two-minute news segment that aired on ABC News,” explains Montlick.
According to the most recent data, pedestrian fatalities, as the result of traffic accidents, increased by 4 percent in 2010. In the study, it is found that 4,280 pedestrians were involved in lethal auto accidents in 2010. Pedestrians made up 13 percent of all traffic fatalities, as well as 3 percent of all reported injuries.
Montlick & Associates is a personal injury firm based in Georgia. The firm serves the victims of auto accidents of all kinds, as well as the families of the victims. The practice is known for only representing the victims, and never insurance companies.
