The core premise of the radio show is as follows:
Spoon says; “In the church at large, there is an enormous amount of tradition. Certain songs, recitings, unspoken fellowship requirements, the individual church’s Ten Commandments, dress codes, attendance expectations, 'you’re only as spiritual as your donations' ideologies, and a series of others laws”.
Mr. Spoon believes that these concepts are man-made rules. They are their own religion. These, and every concept like these, are not at the heart of Christianity, but that Christianity is a living relationship with a living God.
According to Spoon, the basis of Christianity stems from the desire and plan of God to restore what was lost in the Garden of Eden. Jesus severely rebuked the Pharisees because they took man-made rules, called traditions, and elevated them above the actual word of God, thereby “missing” God altogether. Mr. Spoon affirms “Christianity is a living relationship with a living God. Let’s start there.”
