An erotic double image engraved into a Victorian ashtray sparks a sensual 20-year odyssey. Good things happen to Van Chalkstraw, a young man on a lucky streak, in “Loose Connections: Unconventional Erotica” (published by iUniverse), the new book by author Christopher Dowson.

A smokin’ birthday party ignites a firestorm of untethered couplings; an absent girlfriend’s lonely roommate tenders conspicuously un-platonic companionship; a misplaced blind date inspires a waterbed bacchanal in a rustic Woodstock cabin; a Canary Island hotel balcony leads an adventurous young girl to an unfathomable passion.

Wending his way through 15 intertwined encounters, Van embraces a string of temporary, but unforgettable soul mates. A movie star penthouse overlooking London’s Hyde Park precipitates a reunion with the voluptuous English woman who once shared his life; a silver blue lightning bolt illuminates a Brooklyn tenement rooftop, driving a shy date to a frenzy in a sudden hailstorm; chained to a chair in a Las Vegas hotel suite by an urban Amazon with a taste for flamenco, Van embraces his dark side.

Van is bedazzled by the wild girlfriend his wife, Liana, invites to an intimate dinner. The next morning he finds his bride clad only in their guest’s T-shirt, and quickly rekindles the embers of the previous evening.

“Companion Piece,” the concluding story, opens on a transcendentally frigid New York City winter’s morning. A chance meeting in a small café draws Liana to an extraordinary, glass-walled bedroom high above the city. And, to the realization of a fantasy she’s coveted all her life.

The book is available on and other major retailing websites.
