The tradition of prayer at mealtime has existed for many generations, and it is to that tradition that author Sandra Henderson adds her new book “Table Graces: with Scripture” (published by WestBow Press), a unique collection of original prayers designed to encourage family time and offer parents a way to help bring their children closer to God. Her bright, handcrafted illustrations spark active child participation in prayer selection.
“Table Graces” is a collection of 40 original mealtime prayers that are designed to grow the foundation of a child’s faith and to encourage young children to seek and serve the Lord. The prayers express thankfulness for all of God’s many blessings, His faithfulness, His provisions, and His divine plan. The prayers allow children to see God in the world around them and to learn of God’s grace, wisdom and power.
An excerpt from “Table Graces”:
“Gracious God, for this food that nourishes our bodies,
we give You thanks,
For Your Holy Word that nourishes our souls,
we give You thanks.
Help us to use Your nourishment we pray,
to do good works to others each day. Amen”
“Saying prayers at mealtime affords an excellent way to nurture a young child’s faith and to guide them on the right path as they follow their Lord,” Henderson says. “A young child will daily experience God’s presence, goodness and grace with the family gathered around.”
