Distribution is big business in Rugby

Rugby is an ideal geographical location for national distribution centres, so it’s no surprise that so many have sprung up in the area.

UK (PRWEB UK) 29 September 2012

Rugby: Thanks to its central position and excellent motorway links, Rugby has become a major distribution centre for many large companies, including Tesco, Gap and Harveys Furniture. Naming trend data for companies set up between June 2011 and June 2012 seems to suggest that entrepreneurs in Rugby are forming companies that complement the distribution industry, particularly in the transport sector.

According to the latest Duport Business Confidence Report, “Transport” was the word used most often in new company names during the last year, with “Logistics” also appearing amongst the top ten most popular naming words.

SIC data provided in the report echoed the trends seen in naming data, with 84 new companies classifying themselves as “freight transport by road”. SIC (Standard Industrial Classification) codes are used to classify business establishments by the type of economic activity in which they are engaged. All companies must submit an SIC code to Companies House when completing their first Annual Return.

Managing Director of, Peter Valaitis said:

“Rugby is an ideal geographical location for national distribution centres, so it’s no surprise that so many have sprung up in the area. And with internet shopping on the rise, the need for distribution centres is only going to grow in future.

“New businesses have obviously latched onto this fact and begun to exploit the opportunities this presents, particularly in the transporting of goods out of distribution centres.”

With distribution centres providing jobs and new business opportunities, it seems that distribution is becoming key to the economy of Rugby.
