Set Ontario International Airport Free

Ontario City Council Member Alan D. Wapner issued the following statement in reaction to Los Angeles City Administrative Officer Miguel Santana recommending Los Angeles and Ontario open negotiations for the transfer of Ontario International Airport (ONT) to the new Ontario International Airport Authority (OIAA):

"On behalf of the City of Ontario, the Ontario International Airport Authority (OIAA), and the coalition of more than 125 governments, elected officials, business and civic organizations, and newspaper editorial boards, I commend Los Angeles City Administrative Officer (CAO) Miguel Santana for his independent and comprehensive report on ONT. We accept and are pleased with his recommendation that the CAO facilitate negotiations between LAWA, the City of Ontario, the County of San Bernardino, the Ontario International Airport Authority, and other primary stakeholders to determine the most effective and appropriate ownership and management alternative for the airport. All of Southern California, including Los Angeles, will be better served by this transfer of ONT to the OIAA. We look forward to prompt and meaningful negotiations leading to the transfer of the airport."

"I also wish to express appreciation to Los Angeles Council President Herb Wesson, and Council Members Dennis Zine, Bill Rosendahl, Paul Koretz and Tom LaBonge for their leadership in bringing forward the Motions that led to Mr. Santana's report."
