Media campaign seeks to solve national foster crisis

This campaign tells the story of thousands of children across the US who need homes. We believe in the power of images to tip movements and change ideas. The RAC campaign communicates in a positive and warm way that what is important is not what a family.

Hershey Cause Communications has signed on as a partner of RaiseAChild.US, a non-profit organization that encourages families nationwide, with a special emphasis on LGBT people, to foster and adopt. Hershey Cause Communications will assist in the creation of campaigns that recruit and support prospective foster parents while putting images of families into public spaces through PSAs, print media and outdoor advertising.

According to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services’ Administration for Children & Families, over 107,000 children in the foster care system are available and waiting to be adopted. Beyond that number, there are 300,000 more children in need of immediate foster placement. Certified families are in short supply.

Over the past 18 months, RaiseAChild.US has run three campaigns in Los Angeles, engaging over 500 prospective parents, with 400 attending recruitment events. Its upcoming campaign in November, National Adoption Awareness Month, will target major markets across the U.S. on both coasts and in the Midwest.

Hershey Cause Communications is an integrated communications firm, which concentrates on cause driven work and tipping point issues. It is a B Corporation based in Los Angeles, California.

“We are thrilled to be working with RaiseAChild.US,” says R. Christine Hershey, Founder and President of Hershey Cause Communications. “This campaign tells the story of thousands of children across the US who need homes. We believe in the power of images to tip movements and change ideas. The RAC campaign communicates in a positive and warm way that what is important is not what a family looks like, but the love a family has and that what is at stake are thousands of children in our country.”

Rich Valenza, Founder and President of RaiseAChild.US, explains, “This November, within National Adoption Awareness Month, the public will begin to see our media roll-out in magazines, newspapers, outdoor and transit advertising that Hershey Cause Communications has helped create. It is really a revolutionary marketing concept that no one has tried before.”
