Introducing the “Toast to LYFE” Wine Wednesday Series!

The LYFE team created what we believe to be the most environmentally pioneering wine program in the country.

LYFE Kitchen, the socially responsible “lyfestyle” brand, is revolutionizing restaurant wine offerings with the most environmentally leading program in the country – “Toast to LYFE.” The transformative brand once again builds out a niche; this time for delicious wines, from grapes grown from the highest level of sustainable farming, at a tremendous value. The most trusted and finest quality labels, including Frog’s Leap, Trefethen, and Beckmen are now available for $7.99 to $9.99 per glass at LYFE Kitchen.

“We approached creating the wine program with the same care in which we approached our food taste quest,” said LYFE Kitchen Director of Business Development, Jerry Gilomen, who also oversees the wine program. “Through tireless research and dedication to the up-most quality, the LYFE team created what we believe to be the most environmentally pioneering wine program in the country.”

In a constant mode of innovation, Gilomen worked diligently with Dan Donahoe and Jordan Kivelstadt of Free Flow Wines to re-define the environmental standard for wine service in America’s dining spaces by going beyond recycling to whole re-usability. Both LYFE and Free Flow are committed to working with vineyards that are highly evolved in their sustainable business practices. The result is local wines served on tap using a perfected barrel methodology to drastically reduce the carbon foot print.

“By pouring fine wine straight from the barrel at the winery to the barrel underneath the taps at the restaurant, LYFE Kitchen ensures guests always enjoy a consistently fresh glass of wine from the first glass to the last,” said Free Flow Wines co-CEO, Jordan Kivelstadt.

The Sensational Six
Quality starts in the vineyard and we only work with the highest quality wineries. While the availability of wines in the program will change throughout the year to ensure freshness, LYFE is especially proud of its initial line-up of premium wines.

Pinot Gris “Acrobat” from Kings Estate, OR
The style and grace of this Pinot Gris works well with all types of food and is equally crisp and refreshing in its own right.

Pinot Noir - Au Bon Climat Winery, Santa Barbara County
This well balanced and nicely textured wine offers bright plum and strawberry flavors that seem to go with everything.

Rhone Blend “Cuvee Le Bec” - Beckmen Vineyards is a family run, 100% estate grown winery with over 150 acres of vineyards in the Santa Ynez Valley. They were one of the first vineyards to practice Biodynamic farming in Santa Barbara County in 2002 and now has 125 acres of certified vineyards by far the most BD certified acreage in the county. Recognized as a leader in Rhone varietal wines from California Beckmen was named "Top 100 Winery in the World" by Wine & Spirits Magazine in 2007, 2010 and 2011.

Sauvignon Blanc – Frog’s Leap, Napa Valley
“True to its Rutherford roots, the wine’s bright flavors of grapefruit and lemon zest are handsomely balanced by a subtle minerality and bracing acidity. Refreshing and crisp, this wine is a perfect companion for those warm summer days. “All Frog’s Leap wines are made from 100 percent organic grapes.

Cabernet Sauvignon - Paul Dolan Winery, Mendocino County
Wine is made from 100 percent organically grown grapes and is made in a C.C.O.F. certified winery.

Chardonnay - Trefethen Family Vineyards, Napa Valley This 38th vintage of Chardonnay is a true classic, with mouth-feel balanced with acidity and a stony minerality which makes for a very food-friendly wine. Trefethen Family Vineyards is both certified Napa Green Land and Napa Green Winery and is a leader and a pioneer in "sustainable" vineyard and winery practices.

Beginning in September, LYFE will host weekly “Toast to LYFE” Wine Wednesday events, allowing guests to sample these delightful wines, learn more about sustainable and biodynamic growing and engage with the local experts.

LYFE Kitchen’s Wine Selection Process
The process began with an extensive evaluation of more than 50 wineries that are offering a “Wine on Tap” program. The wineries were judged on six criteria:

1.    Menu Compatibility: How the varietals that the winery offered would pair with the LYFE Kitchen menu.
2.    Taste Profile: How the “taste profile” of each wine compared to the taste profile associated with its varietal, as well as the expectations of our guests regarding that standard taste profile.
3.    Environmental Leadership: The environmental commitment of the winery. Preference was given to wines with 100 percent bio-dynamically and organically grown grapes and wineries with 100 percent organically grown grapes.
4.    Premium Wineries: The winery’s rating as it relates to finest industry and consumer reputation to establish customer confidence in the program.
5.    Affordability: The cost basis of the wine, so that LYFE could provide premium wines that are reasonably priced wine to meet the expectations of LYFE’s guests.
6.    Distribution Capabilities: The winery’s distribution system and ability to expand the system, to accommodate LYFE’s future growth plans.

Why Sustainable Winegrowing?
By following a set of sustainability values, wineries strive to produce the best quality wine and grapes possible, provide leadership in protecting the environment and maintain the long-term viability of the land. LYFE Kitchen is proud to introduce the marketplace to these highly regarded and better-for-the-earth wines, including those from Beckmen made from certified biodynamic grapes. These winery partners view the vineyard as a complete living system. The soil, vines, insects and other vegetation work in harmony to yield incredible-tasting wine. This balance of nature aligns with LYFE’s vision to bring great-taste and nutrition to Americans’ dining options.

Our Commitment to the Environment
Over the course of one year, an average restaurant using the barrel system would deplete about one hundred barrels per tap, with each barrel essentially replacing twenty-six bottles. With each glass bottle weighing about 1.5 pounds, LYFE Kitchen is on track to reduce landfill waste by several tons.

For example, one keg eliminates:

  •     26 bottles
  •     Two shipping cartons
  •     26 foil wraps
  •     26 corks
  •     26 sets of bottle labels
  •     39 pounds of waste

Of course, this dedication to surpassing existing environmental standards is at the core of LYFE Kitchen’s values. LYFE is committed to green manufacturing practices, recycling goods and purchasing post-consumer products. From the locally sourced food to the furniture and the LED lighting to the paint on the walls, LYFE Kitchen always aims to inspire sustainable practices. The wine program will further complement LYFE’s substantial dedication to an eco-friendly lifestyle desired by its customers and the brand.
