Our results for VisuMax are greater than expected and patients tell us they don't feel a thing.

Christenbury Eye Center announced the arrival of the Zeiss VisuMax® Femtosecond Laser, the newest and most advanced FDA-approved technology for LASIK vision correction. The VisuMax laser is used to create the corneal flap, the first step of a LASIK procedure. Christenbury Eye Center is the only provider of this new technology in the Carolinas and one of only two providers on the East Coast. With VisuMax, patients experience a faster and more comfortable procedure.

The VisuMax laser is faster and more accurate than prior lasers. This laser pulses 500,000 times a second, making it the fastest laser vision correction laser in the world. Patients simply fixate on a flashing green light and say "they feel nothing" after the 20-second procedure.

"I have performed all laser LASIK since 2002, which is safer. The addition of VisuMax to our Wavefront Custom LASIK procedure allows us to reduce the procedure time for the patient while providing more accuracy. The VisuMax is almost 10 times faster than prior lasers and uses one tenth the energy, which allows quicker vision recovery. ” Dr. Christenbury said. "Our results for VisuMax are greater than expected and patients tell us they don't feel a thing."

It's no surprise that Dr. Christenbury is on the forefront of LASIK technology as he performed the first LASIK in the Carolinas and more than 75,000 LASIK procedures in the past 15 years. He continues to adopt the latest and most advanced technologies. LASIK patients at Christenbury Eye Center receive the "Wavefront Custom LASIK” procedure, a system that provides a unique treatment customized to each patient's eye. Custom Wavefront LASIK measures and corrects optical errors that glasses and contacts do not correct.

Dr. Christenbury says, “With Custom Wavefront LASIK, 98% of our patients are 20/20 or better, and patients say their night vision is better than with glasses or contact lenses.”
