Austin, TX (PRWEB) September 28, 2012
Skydivers from all around the world will compete against each other on November 5th, without ever leaving their own hometowns. The first ever Online Indoor Skydiving Competition will be held at ten vertical wind tunnels simultaneously around the world --from iFLY Hollywood at 9 am to iFLY Dubai at 9 pm all on the same day—and the performances will be recorded and uploaded to the competition’s YouTube™ and Facebook™ pages for spectator viewing.
Vertical wind tunnels have been in use since the 1980s as a training aid for skydivers and paratroopers. Wind tunnels create speeds ranging from 100 to 160 mph where skydivers can fly and perform all types of maneuvers and tricks. The technology has improved so significantly that indoor skydiving has grown into its own exciting sport, and outdoor skydivers consider vertical wind tunnel training indispensable.
In fact, some of the best outdoor skydiving teams in the world will be competing, including current and former world champion teams. The athletes will compete in five different disciplines, ranging from four-person formation skydiving to individual freestyle flying. Disciplines include Formation Skydiving (FS), Vertical Formation Skydiving (VFS), 2-way VFS, Freefly and Neo-Freestyle (http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLSQN5zMlQEkt__8Sr-8up5MOf25j0cgEu).
The competition’s organizer, International Bodyflight Association (IBA), a group dedicated to training and accrediting indoor skydiving instructors and promoting the sport of indoor skydiving will facilitate and appoint the judges for the competition. “The sport continues to grow at an amazing pace,” said Axel Zohmann of the IBA. “It draws world-class skydivers because the experience of flying in a wind tunnel is so close to actual free fall. And since it’s so safe and more efficient, the competitors keep getting younger and younger, and better and better.”
Internationally rated judges will judge the online competition, and the winners of all disciplines will receive free airfare to the 2012 Indoor Skydiving World Championships to be held in Singapore in December.
