NEW YORK (PRWEB) September 24, 2012
Both Syrian foreign minister Walid Muallem and Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will be participating in the UN General Assembly meeting this week in New York. Members of the Syrian American Council, as well as human rights and democracy activists from numerous groups, will protest the presence of Muallem and Ahmadinejad at the U.N. General Assembly meeting on Wednesday.
Walid Muallem is a principal orchestrator of the war against the Syrian people. After joining the Syrian Foreign Ministry in 1964 Muallem has served the regime for 40 continuous years. From 1990 to 2000, he served Hafez al-Assad as Syria's ambassador to the United States. After a brief stint as Deputy Foreign Minister in 2006 Muallem replaced Farouk al-Sharaa to become Syria's Foreign Minister.

"From his heavily fortified office in the heart of Damascus, Muallem has directed Bashar al-Assad's international public relations battle. His primary weapons of choice are abject lies, disinformation, and conspiracy theories," said Samy Harmoush of the Syrian American Council. "Muallem belongs in the Hague, not the UN General Assembly."
The protest is planned to be held on Wednesday, September 26, at 11:00 a.m., at the Daag Hamarskjold Plaza (UN Plaza 47nd & 2nd).
