Chicago, IL (PRWEB) September 25, 2012
A Family of My Own (AFOMO) Fertility & Adoption Conference comes to the Chicago area on Saturday, September 29th, providing a one-day conference with locally- and nationally-recognized industry speakers, companies and resources to help those looking to grow a family.
The event features educational seminars dealing with topics such as overcoming infertility diagnoses, fertility treatment options, third-party reproduction and surrogacy services, starting the adoption process, and boosting fertility through holistic treatments. Personal consultations and Q & A sessions will also be available.
“Our goal is to provide a comfortable environment where attendees can learn about all of their family planning options,” says Preya Shivdat, director and founder of A Family of My Own. “Attendees can meet physicians, agencies and experts with helpful knowledge about adoption and medically-assisted programs.”
Physicians will also be presenting sessions on a variety of topics to help attendees understand how they can overcome infertility and receive proper support in the process.
“There are so many options available to couples, and understanding them can be daunting,” says medical director Dr. Angeline Beltsos of Fertility Centers of Illinois, who will be speaking on polycystic ovarian syndrome, endometriosis, and trying to conceive. “There is no other event where you are given all of your answers at once, with experts on hand to answer your questions. Spending four hours at a conference can save couples countless hours of research.”

From Raffle Winner to Mommy
Edie Carey of Chicago was the lucky winner of last year’s drawing, and is currently pregnant with her first child. Because of health issues, she and her husband knew that IVF would be their only option.
“We knew that our health insurance would not cover the cost of IVF, so we were preparing to put the baby on the Visa card,” said Carey. “When I heard that an upcoming infertility conference was coming to Chicago and there would be a raffle for a free IVF cycle, I sent my husband Matt on a mission. After our cycle, we learned we were pregnant!”
After working with Fertility Centers of Illinois to become pregnant, Edie and Matt Carey are expecting their baby in October.
Two Katies, Four Babies
Two Chicago-area women, both named Katie, attended the A Family of My Own conference in 2011. Both had very different infertility challenges, but were brought together by similar circumstances. Katie Davis of Bolingbrook is an ovarian cancer survivor (note: September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month) who later became pregnant through IVF and an anonymous egg donor, and now has twins Avery and Hannah. Katie O'Brien of Wadsworth grew her family with the help of IVF and a gestational surrogate, and now has twins Erin and Jack. Both women were patients of Fertility Centers of Illinois and supporters of A Family of My Own. The Katies popular blogs have garnered a strong following and public rally for their success (Katie Davis' blog: http://katieandpatsivfjourney.blogspot.com/, Katie O'Brien's Blog: http://prayingforbabyobrien.blogspot.com/).
